League receives strategic investment from Workday Ventures

Toronto-based League announced that it has received a strategic investment from Workday Ventures, the investment arm of HR cloud software company Workday, and will partner with Workday as a software partner. League was unable to disclose the size of the investment to BetaKit.

“Employers face a challenge in building programs that improve employee health and engagement.”

As part of Workday’s software partner program, League will integrate its Health Benefits Experience (HBX) platform (launched earlier this year) with Workday Human Capital Management system, intending to help improve the digital health benefits experience for its customers.

“As a Workday Ventures portfolio company, League will be able to provide customers with more accessible health and benefits delivery, enabling them to meet their employees where they are,” said Workday senior vice president Leighanne Levensaler.

The HBX platform aims to eliminate persistent issues associated with health benefits by giving employees a centralized platform to help them better understand what benefits they have and how to use them, as well as to track employee health. League’s hub integrates over 100 insurance carriers, healthcare partners, and human resource management systems and is currently being used by employers of Unilever, Uber, Shopify, and Lush Cosmetics.

“Employers face a challenge in building programs that improve employee health and engagement while managing business costs, but traditional point solutions have not been able to address the growing demand,” said Mike Serbinis, founder and CEO of League. “To stay competitive, enterprises will need to deploy a health OS [operating system] in the next 10 years.”

Serbinis stated that Toronto-based League’s partnership with Workday is a step toward helping to accelerate that transition.

League also recently announced a partnership with Cleveland Clinic to provide medical oversight and advisory support with the personalization of clients’ employee benefits programs. The healthtech company is expecting the collaboration with Cleveland Clinic’s management and clinical experts to help offer better healthcare experience through League’s HBX platform.

Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit academic medical center, based in Cleveland, Ohio, has pioneered several medical breakthroughs, including coronary artery bypass surgery and the first face transplant in the US.
