All about complex anal fistulas and their causes
Fistula in ano/Bhagandar/complex anal fistula results from an anal abscess, current or a past one. But it is a small tunnel located within the anal canal that opens outside near the anus in the lower buttock area.
Causes of fistula in ano
Many reasons lead to fistula in ano in an individual. Some medical conditions such as Crohn’s disease, cancer, trauma, and radiation also cause fistula in ano. Also, when small glands within the anus get severely infected and develop an abscess condition which ultimately develops into a fistula in ano. Infection in these glands is because of local trauma, poor perianal hygiene, constipation, etc.
The LIFT procedure–Treatment of fistula in ano conditions
The LIFT procedure is supposed to be one of the most suggested procedures to treat fistulas. But in this procedure, the doctor divides the fistula tract and space between the two sphincter muscles and treats the fistula. But there are chances of fistula in ano conditions recurring after this procedure.
